Last Friday ECS held their monthly Happy Hour at Temple Billiards as they officially presented MAURO ROSALES with the 2011 Jon Glyer Memorial ECS Player of the Year Award!
The host for the evening was ECS member, Eric Bender, as he pumped up the crowd in presenting the award.
The award is named after Jon Glyer who passed away in a freak accident in his machine shop. Jon was only in ECS for a short time but quickly his passion for life and football melded into one.

About the ECS Monthly Happy Hours
Many have asked, “What’s the best way to get involved in ECS and really get to know the members?” Match day is usually the worst time as most of us are busy fulfilling differing roles for ECS operations (tifo, capo, street team, etc.). That is why we have created the monthly happy hours for people to come out when most of our members are really able to relax and have a drink away from the chaos. Everyone is invited to join whether you are an ECS member or not!
On March 31, at the Sounders v San Jose match after the National Anthem, we will raise red cards to show unity against racism and homophobia in soccer around world and here in the United States. MLS teams fans and the ISC will be showing unity in the fight against racism and also recognizing The International Day For the Elimination of Racial Discrimination (March 21) http://www.un.org/en/events/racialdiscriminationday/ over the next 3 weeks(not all teams have home games this week). We are hoping all Sounders supporters and fans will join to recognize this International Day and to stand against Racism. The Independent Supporters Council is working with all it’s member groups to join in to take a stand against racism.
There will be red cards in your seats if you sit in the sections that the groups participating (North End Faithful, La Barra Fuerza Verde , Gorilla FC and East Side Supporters. We hope you bring your own red cards if you don’t sit in one of those areas or convince your group to join along. This is a Sounders statement against racism in soccer. Raise them after the National Anthem. When the video boards in the stadium will signal when to hold them up, or look for others supporters doing it.
We will be making banner and cards at Golazo HQ on pike on Monday and Tuesday 4-10 March 26 and March 27. Join us.
Soccer in North America has a dynamic and rich history that is multiracial, and embraces the strength that comes with its diversity. The history of soccer here is unique from other parts of the world, in that a philosophy of inclusiveness has always been apparent in all of its aspects, including players, supporters, and management.
As soccer continues to grow in the North American continent, it is imperative that each of us take responsibility in ensuring the diverse heritage and culture of the sport continues. There are many recent examples in Europe and some in the United States where racism and homophobia have reared it’s ugly head.
Give Racism the Red Card works to increase players, management, and supporters’ understanding of the inclusive heritage and diverse culture of soccer in North America. To promote young people’s participation as active and responsible citizens in a growing multi-racial and diverse society. Provide tools and resources for management, supporters, and players to respond to bigotry in positive ways. Harness the high profile of top soccer players as role models to grab the interests of and educate the larger community on issues of inclusion and opportunity. Involvement of the leagues and/or teams to adopt anti-racism measures and inclusion of policies and practices, both on the field and in the stands. Providing team and league management the tools and framework to be able to swiftly deal with incidents of racist abuse and insults in a uniform manner. Showcase the unique strength of soccer in North America due in part to its diversity.
